Hello! I am Merilee Rockefeller-Kolpaczyk, founder of Breastfeeding Support and More with Miss Merilee. I truly loved being a Labor and Delivery & Post-Partum Nurse at Community Hospital for the last 34 years and feel that being a Nurse is and has always been my calling. My love of maternal health became focused through a new lens after I had my children and experienced quite a few “hiccups”. I found a new passion in helping other new moms avoid some of these issues by being a Lactation Consultant and an instructor teaching Lamaze Based Childbirth and Breastfeeding Classes (LCCE).
When I had my first child, I was sure things would go smoothly. I was a L&D/postpartum nurse for goodness sake! Ummm…..nope.
After having my ( and maybe a smidge unrealistic) “birth plan” go out the window when our 1st baby made an unplanned early arrival via an emergency cesarean section and working through the multiple issues that ensued, including late preterm birth nursing problems, poor weight gain, introduction of early supplement feedings via a bottle, nipple soreness-then nipple damage- then mastitis-then mastitis again, let’s not forget the hard to get rid of yeast infection, and the ever present low milk supply problem, I was eventually able to find my stride with breastfeeding, trust my body and my baby, and comes to terms with how things went.
The birth of my babies and breastfeeding my kids are some of my most treasured memories. But TRUST ME when I say I didn’t get there on my own. Especially important were my family’s loving support and believing in me even when I was having trouble doing so, the clinical expertise from talented lactation consultants (LC), my learning to slow down to the baby’s pace, and my new found community with other nursing moms. Those resources are what helped me be successful with my breastfeeding goals. They helped me navigate the many ‘curve balls’ that were thrown at us and find me find my own unique breastfeeding path.
This is what I would like to do for you. This is why I became a Lactation Consultant and a Childbirth and Breastfeeding Instructor.
You and your amazing baby are the star of this show. Let me help light the way and ease the burden of uncertainty, so you and your baby can find your own beautiful rhythm.
